Watts Youth Foundation was founded by individuals who were raised in the
Nickerson Garden's Housing Community in Watts after the Los Angeles Riots. Most
of these individuals did not have any opportunities to view life outside of Watts when
growing up. These individuals want to give the Youths of this community the
opportunities to see "Life" outside of their neighborhood. By taking these youths to
cultural events, community events, theme parks, movies, beaches/fishing, local
landmarks, art galleries, college events, professional sports, volunteer events,
TV/Movie filming, fine restaurants and much more.
Watts Youth Foundation (WYF) is a grass roots organization started by regular
Angelinos, volunteers, that were concerned enough to make an effort to rebuild our
broken society. The concept has always been simple: people helping people. If we

Our Mission at WYF is to expose inner city children to role models, mentors, and
career possibilities. We try to give them a break from the stress of their tough
environments, show them some fun, and give them some love. Our goal is to
inspoire children to become independent thiners and strong people who are able to
live rewarding lives.
They also want to share their experiences with the mistakes they made in their youth
and how they changed to live their own lives without doing the things they done in
the past. The Foundation feels that taking the Youths to see life outside of their
community lets them see that there is a better life. The individuals of this Foundation
either live in or near the community and/or visit the community at least 2+ times a
week or whenever possible.
Thanks to the assistance of David "Hollywood" Harrell, Donnell Harrell, and Shorty
Rossi, all who grew up in Nickerson Gardens help keep the hope alive of WYF.
Every year they pick at least fifty kids from Watts to join WYF. They take them on
twelve different day long camp trips with themes that mix education and
entertainment. It's exciting to witness the kids learn, overcome their fears, enjoy
different experiences, build friendships, and have a lot of fun. Every year they pick
